Mentavi Communication & Conflict Series

Part 1: Why conflict can
escalate quickly with ADHD

We explored why conflict can intensify quickly for people with ADHD, and what may help. We looked at how emotional regulation, response inhibition, and sensitivity to perceived criticism can play a role in escalation, and introduced three practical strategies
you can use to recognize escalation patterns, step away intentionally,
and return to conversations with greater clarity.
For adults 18+. Educational event only; no diagnosis, therapy, or prescribing services are provided.
Mentavi Mental Wellness Coaches are not clinicians and do not prescribe medication.

What to expect

During this session, we explored:

  • Why emotional intensity during conflict may be associated with ADHD, and what research suggests about emotional regulation differences
  • How the conflict escalation cycle works — from trigger to aftermath — and why it can feel so hard to interrupt
  • Three practical strategies: the Pause and Return Method, the Mind Dump, and the Body Check
  • How to begin practicing these tools in relationships, at work, and at home

This session was designed to support understanding and self-awareness, not perfection. You can also download the companion worksheet — The Conflict Reset Toolkit — with templates and prompts to practice each strategy.
