About our Diagnostic Evaluation

Our Mentavi Health team set out to develop the Mentavi Mental Health Diagnostic Evaluation with one goal in mind: to offer patients nationwide a completely confidential mental health assessment that can diagnose ADHD and other potentially co-occurring mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, and OCD.

Through our unwavering commitment to advancing and innovating the mental health industry, we conducted a clinical study comparing our Diagnostic Evaluation’s diagnosis of ADHD in adults to the current standard of care — a clinical interview.

What does it mean to be clinically validated?

ADHD in adults is underdiagnosed and undertreated due to a number of factors, leaving millions of Americans without access to the mental health care they need.

The diagnosis and treatment of ADHD and other mental health conditions through telehealth offers patients accessible, equitable, and affordable care. But online assessments have faced skepticism due to concerns about accuracy and validity.

Our clinical study was developed and conducted with scientific rigor and clinical oversight. These landmark results reaffirm our dedication to advancing virtual mental health care and demonstrate that the Mentavi Mental Health Diagnostic Evaluation is as effective as traditional methods in the diagnosis of ADHD.

Dr. Barry K. Herman on presenting the first-in-kind study at the World Congress on ADHD in Prague, Czech Republic, May 2025

In this brief video, Dr. Barry K. Herman shares his experience presenting what is, to our knowledge, the first-of-its-kind clinical study validating an asynchronous diagnostic evaluation for ADHD in adults—compared to the current standard of care—at the 10th World Congress on ADHD.

He emphasizes the importance of scientific rigor in digital diagnostics and the value of engaging with global clinicians and researchers around data that shapes the future of mental healthcare.

Getting clarity shouldn’t be complicated

The Mentavi Mental Health Diagnostic Evaluation is clinically validated for diagnosing ADHD in adults,  built on the same science and standards used in traditional, in-person assessments, but delivered through a digital, clinician-reviewed model.

In this video, Mentavi Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. Barry K. Herman explains how the evaluation works, what clinical validation really means, and why this milestone matters for making quality mental healthcare easier to access for everyone.

He’s joined by Mentavi Health CEO Keith Brophy, who shares how this groundbreaking study reinforces Mentavi’s mission to combine clinical rigor with innovation, expanding access while keeping human expertise at the center of care.

Study results and indications

The results of the validation study reveal a high level of agreement (78%) between the
clinical interview and the Mentavi Mental Health Diagnostic Evaluation, particularly for ADHD positive cases.

The study also indicates that the Diagnostic Evaluation is more accurate at identifying ADHD positive cases, resulting in a 94.9% Positive Predictive Value (PPV), with a false positive rate of only 12% relative to 56% for the clinical interview.

Additionally, the Diagnostic Evaluation was more conservative in diagnosing ADHD than the clinical interview, suggesting that an overdiagnosis of ADHD is not a likely concern. In cases where the Diagnostic Evaluation could not confirm a diagnosis, a recommendation was made for further clinical evaluation.

Overall, this study demonstrates that online asynchronous assessment is a reliable, accurate, and trustworthy method for diagnosing ADHD in adults. It reinforces our belief that evidence-based, thoughtfully designed digital tools can deliver reliable results, further paving the way for broader adoption of telehealth solutions.

“Presenting this data at the World Congress on ADHD — to many of the world’s foremost experts in the field — represents a pivotal moment for advancing both the diagnosis of adult ADHD and the clinical credibility of telehealth.”
